World’s first handrail with up to three integrated LED strips
Together with our development partners, we have designed a handrail that ensures maximum orientation in an emergency and consists of two profile components. The lower profile section contains a mounting bracket and a robust, fully protected LED strip that illuminates the escape route. The upper profile section is the actual handrail, with a second (Up-Light) and a third (Front-Light) LED strip providing unambiguous orientation.
The Up-Light appears towards the tunnel wall and the Front-Light towards the middle of the tunnel. All three options are used in the crossing section, i.e. where the emergency exits are located. The Up-Light can also be used to individually illuminate signs on the tunnel wall.
The Handrail Security System is therefore the world’s first security system for tunnels that can accommodate three LED strips and therefore offers maximum functionality.

Norway’s tunnel builders rely on the handrail safety system
Advancing LED technology not only offers increased energy efficiency, but also greater flexibility in terms of lighting design and control. Integrating the latest LED technologies into the emergency lighting systems of tunnels not only increases safety and significantly reduces energy costs, but also contributes to sustainability. It also enables customers to carry out installations and repairs much more quickly and easily. The tunnel no longer needs to be shut down for this work.
